After two years away due to Covid-19, the Pipe Tobacco Council held its 42nd annual meeting at The Breakers Palm Beach Resort. Along with the normal business to discuss and vote on each year, the members heard annual updates from our federal and state lobbyists on some of the highlights and “wins” both federally and in the states in 2022.
The board was also briefed on the current regulatory issues facing the industry in 2022 and in the upcoming year. On May 4, 2022, the FDA issued its Proposed Tobacco Product Standard for Characterizing Flavors in Cigars, seeking to ban flavors in cigars. Along with the Cigar Association of America, the Pipe Tobacco Council was proactive by submitting its own comments to the Proposed Product Standard detailing all the reasons why flavors should not be prohibited in pipe tobacco (found here).
The Breakers is always a great time for members, spouses, and guests to connect with other and enjoy time together at the Breakers. We look forward to our 2023 annual meeting at The Breakers once again on November 2nd – 4th.
